History

TYLER AIDS SERVICES, INC. (formerly known as HIS House) was created in 1989 as an informaiton and resource center for those living with HIV/AIDS.  Almost immediately, the founder of T.A.S. discovered that there was a tragic lack of care for HIV/AIDS patients in East Texas.

With nowhere else to turn, people living with AIDS began showing up at the doorstep of T.A.S. desperatly seeking help.  The people of Tyler AIDS Servcies responded to this need and established a hospice for those in the final stages of AIDS related diseases.

Over time, more has become known about HIV/AIDS and new medications provide better treatement options. Although no longer an immediate death-sentence, AIDS remains a chronic, progressively debilitating illness.

As the face of HIV/AIDS has changed, so has the mission of Tyler AIDS Services.  Beginning in 1998, TAS stopped functioning as a hospice and began to function as a full-service HIV/AIDS facility serving most of the 32 North East Texas Counties.  In 2005, due to the major cost of operations, we closed the housing facility.

The agency continues with many programs including:
    -> Information and referral center for persons living with HIV/AIDS;                                                                                     -> Long Term Housing rental assistance                                       -> Emergency Assistance for rent, utilities, prescriptions               -> Food Pantry                                                                        -> Educational Outreaches                                                         -> HIV/AIDS/STD Hotline and referrals
    -> Assistance with funeral expenses

Individuals who have had chemical/alcohol issues will be assessed and, if necessary, referred to the appropriate agencies for support care.

TYLER AIDS SERVICES, INC. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We rely on donations, grants, and memorials from individuals, corporations, and foundations for support of our organization and its programs. We also benefit from the charitable Bingo games under the Texas Lottery Commision.
